北方粉色海虾 (Northern Pink Shrimp) 是邻州冬季的特产。这种虾很小,外壳是粉红色, 味道细嫩鲜美。 有意思的是, 所有的虾出生时都是公的, 到一两年后成熟, 又变身为母的, 开始繁殖。 冬季正是它们靠近海域开始产卵的季节, 所以几乎每只虾都含着一大团的小黑仔。

对于海产品, 基本的食用原则是选购本地, 野生,小鱼小虾等食物链低层的生物。但如今到处都是养殖产品, 自然野生的,又是新鲜打捞的海货非常稀少。 今年发现的这个八周购买计划价格便宜, 服务也好, 唯一的缺憾是离家略远了些。

新鲜的海虾亮晶晶的,十分饱满。 拿回家后,一般会立即水煮一大锅, 加点姜,酒和盐, 水一开就好。 轻轻自尾巴一拽,嫩白的虾身整个就滑了出来,一口一个, 真鲜啊。

吃不完的虾,可以去头速冻, 即使过个三两周, 化开,剥皮,做成三鲜虾饺等鲜味仍在。

虾皮虾头还可以加工成海鲜底汤或煮成海鲜酱油。

海虾富含维生素D,B12, omega-3, 是高蛋白低脂肪的优质食品。 但是胆固醇偏高,虽然增加好胆固醇(HDL) 多于坏胆固醇(LDL), 但敏感人群还是要适量。据说胆固醇主要在头部, 所有最好不吃虾头。有肾病的人因为要控制蛋白质摄入量, 也要适量。
